The University of Pécs (PTE) is the oldest university in Hungary, founded in 1367 by King Louis I of Hungary. Located in Pécs — a UNESCO World Heritage city and European Capital of Culture — the university is one of the country's most comprehensive higher education institutions. With 10 faculties spanning medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, law, business and economics, humanities, engineering, health sciences, music and visual arts, and sciences, PTE offers programs at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The university hosts over 20,000 students, including approximately 4,000 international students from more than 100 countries. PTE is ranked #741–750 in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and its Medical School is accredited by WHO, the UK General Medical Council, and EU Recognition.
