The University of Manchester is a public research university in Manchester, England, tracing its origins to 1824 and formed in its current structure in 2004 through the merger of UMIST and the Victoria University of Manchester. It is a founding member of the Russell Group and one of the UK's largest single-site universities, organised across three faculties: Humanities, Science and Engineering, and Biology, Medicine and Health. Manchester is consistently ranked among the world's top 40 universities and is known for a broad academic offering spanning engineering, natural sciences, business (Alliance Manchester Business School), medicine, humanities and the arts. The university has produced 25 Nobel Prize winners, including work on graphene, developed at Manchester in 2004. Home to over 40,000 students from more than 160 countries, it offers one of the widest ranges of degree programmes of any UK university, with strong industry links across the North West of England.
