The University of Freiburg (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg), founded in 1457, is one of Germany's oldest and most prestigious public research universities. Spanning eleven faculties -- Theology, Law, Economics and Behavioral Sciences, Medicine, Philology, Humanities, Mathematics and Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, Biology, Environment and Natural Resources, and Engineering -- Freiburg offers around 240 degree programs to roughly 24,500 students, including over 3,500 international students from more than 120 countries. It is a member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) and the German U15 group, with particular strength in life sciences, sustainability, and microsystems engineering.
