The University of Edinburgh, founded in 1583, is Scotland's oldest and one of the UK's leading research universities, and a founding member of the Russell Group. Organised across three colleges (Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Science and Engineering; Medicine and Veterinary Medicine), it is internationally renowned for Informatics and Artificial Intelligence — one of the largest and longest-established AI research groups in Europe — as well as for Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Law and Business. Notable alumni include Charles Darwin and Alexander Graham Bell, and the university was home to the team that cloned Dolly the sheep at the Roslin Institute. With around 49,000 students from over 150 countries spread across its Central Area, King's Buildings and Easter Bush campuses in and around the city of Edinburgh, it consistently ranks among the world's top 40 universities.
