Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) traces its roots to the Treacher Technical School of 1904, becoming a technical institute in 1972 and gaining full university status in 1975. Its main campus in Skudai, Johor Bahru spans 11.48 square kilometres — the second-largest public university campus in Malaysia — with additional campuses in Kuala Lumpur and Pagoh. UTM is Malaysia's leading engineering and technology university, ranked in the world's top 100 for engineering and technology and top 50 for petroleum engineering, and rated #1 in Malaysia for Architecture and the Built Environment. With around 24,800 students, including nearly 5,000 international students from 60 countries, UTM is unusually graduate-focused, with postgraduates making up 55% of its student body — the highest ratio of any Malaysian university.
