Ilia State University (ISU) is a modern public research university in Tbilisi, established in 2006 through the merger of several specialized institutions. It is ranked in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 at the 1201+ position and is the second most popular university in Georgia. ISU serves approximately 17,000 students across seven faculties, offering over 56 bachelor's programmes, 60+ master's, and a growing portfolio of doctoral programmes. The university is particularly noted for its programmes in journalism, business, natural sciences, dentistry, and social sciences, and has developed a strong international orientation with partner universities across Europe, North America, and Asia. ISU is accredited by Georgia's National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE) and is a member of the European University Association.
