The Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) is one of the largest and most comprehensive agricultural universities in Europe, officially established on 1 February 2021 through the merger of several historic institutions — the oldest of which, the former University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest, dates to 1787. MATE's main campus is located in Gödöllő, approximately 30 km from Budapest, with additional campuses in Budapest, Kaposvár, Keszthely, and Gyöngyös. The university offers 40+ English-taught degree programs across agriculture, environmental and food sciences, horticulture, viticulture, water and renewable energy management, landscape architecture, mechanical engineering, economics, and rural development. With over 12,500 students — nearly 15% of whom are international — MATE is ranked #1001–1200 globally by QS 2026 and #101–150 globally in Agriculture and Forestry.
