Alexandria University is a leading public research university established in 1938 on Egypt's Mediterranean coast. Originally founded as a branch of Cairo University under the name Farouk University, it became an independent institution in 1942 and was renamed Alexandria University following the 1952 Revolution. Today it is the second-largest university in Egypt, with over 182,000 students enrolled across 22 faculties and 3 research institutes. Programs span undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels across medicine, engineering, pharmacy, dentistry, law, arts, science, and commerce. The university is accredited by Egypt's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and holds memberships in the Union of Arab Universities, Union of African Universities, and the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED).
